People Locating System using BLE beacons and gateways, Beacons are assigned to personnel, key fobs or ID badge beacons are usually suggested for such tracking applications. Multiple gateway receivers are installed at customer sites and different gateway reading points provide accurate location points within the facility. Gateways will collect beacon signals automatically when a person with a beacon is seen within a 3-10 meters range of the gateway.

Gateways connect to the internet through wired or Wi-Fi network. With continuous updates from beacons and gateways location points, cloud applications will be able to provide location updates of personnel in real-time. Tracking systems software lets you track, locate, monitor, and provide enhanced alerts with security updates through SMS or emails to relevant authorities

Deciding on the right Indoor tracking and locating system

Different requirements dictate more specific use cases for indoor tracking and locating systems. Unfortunately, there is no one-size fits all answers. Every customer looks for particular information, whether the system can provide accuracy, area coverage, or the frequency at we collect data. Each client searches for specific data to improve their tracking visibility capabilities

When deciding on accuracy, the customer is usually interested in knowing the exact location in few centimeters or within 1-3 meters accuracy or a zone/location-based information. This criteria is entirely dependant on the how valuable or important the asset location information is for the customer.

For instance, hospitals may require a 1meter accuracy to locate patients, however, on the other hand, when you want to track forklifts in a warehouse, customers are typically fine with 1- 3 meters accuracy. If location defining criteria is required for a zone based information, for example, locating personnel in an office/warehouses/manufacturing facility, all you need is to know if the person is in the specific location of the office building/workstation or receive real time info of an asset visibility in a large storage facility.

The area covered for positioning an object in an office building, a manufacturing or industrial facility, or any indoor areas differ greatly in terms of size and area to be monitored. Our Blue-tooth devices have the capability to be customized for various read ranges and scalability requirements.

 

The frequency at which customers need reporting on asset location, is dependant on several aspects, for example, if the asset is relatively static item in a warehouse, then you won’t need a very high update rate, every 10 or 15 mins or motion trigger data could be valuable enough. However, if you are trying to capture personnel tracking data in a healthcare or manufacturing facility, you would likely require tracking/locating capability every minute. Or if you want to monitor assets moved into restricted zones, you may want to trigger email or alert reports instantly within the system.

Real-time locating systems(RTLS) are software that can help you automatically recognize and tracking or monitoring the location of objects or people in real-time, usually within a building or other contained area. RTLS based systems for identification and tracking of people or assets for accurate indoor positioning. Data is reported in near real time depending on the type of solutions installed. Specialized fixed devices like gateways or locators are attached to the ceiling or walls to receive wireless signals from ID badges or wearable beacons which are assigned to people.

Depending on the customer requirements, various RTLS solutions are available such as zone/area based tracking updates, focus detection or precision location with varying resolution. These solutions help determine where the tagged entities are located within a building or some other confined indoor or outdoor spaces.

Zone/Area RTLS coverage – This type of RTLS captures all tagged personnel within a defined zone. A typical zone is a large area within a manufacturing, production floor or warehouse facility with a coverage ranging between 20-80 meters per gateway. The data collected from the assigned gateway for the zone is capable of reporting all tagged personnel within the zone but does not provide individual personnel location/positioning information within the zone.

Focus Detection RTLS – This type of RTLS is designed for proximity monitoring of personnel, suitable for detecting individuals entering buildings, at machinery workstations, at a patient bedside or at an office cubicle. Gateways installed in these locating environments have a limited read range between 2-5 meters. The data collected from the assigned gateway for the specific read point is capable of reporting the time spent by the tagged individual at that gateway location.

Precision Locating RTLS – This type of RTLS is designed to capture the precise location of personnel within a building or facility. Multiple gateways are installed to triangulate and locate the position of a specific individual with an accuracy of 1-2 meters. This solution could be used in security or people monitoring applications where you need data every few milliseconds to continuously locate and track personnel in real time.
